When You Listen, the Path Reveals Itself

One of the most important things I’ve learned over the years is this…

Listening to that quiet inner feeling — the one that doesn’t always make sense — is everything.

When I ignore it, things feel hard.
There’s resistance.
Nothing quite flows.

But when I listen… even if I don’t understand what’s unfolding… something opens. And what follows is often far more beautiful than anything I could have planned.

I’ve just experienced this again over the past couple of weeks.

When my Australian gum leaf block prints arrived, I was beyond excited. Holding them in my hands for the first time… the smoothness of the wood, the detail in the carving, the care that had gone into them… it felt so special. Almost like a bridge between two places I love — the traditional craftsmanship of India and the beauty of the Australian bush.

Naturally, I couldn’t wait to start printing.

But something unexpected happened.

Every time I went to use them… I couldn’t.

I had them out so many times, ready to begin, and each time something just didn’t feel right. It wasn’t a loud “no”… just a quiet resistance. And instead of pushing through it, I chose to sit with it.

And slowly, it became clear.

What didn’t feel right wasn’t the blocks… it was what I was about to use with them.

There was something about pairing these beautiful, organic, hand-carved wooden blocks with synthetic acrylic paint that just didn’t sit well. The two didn’t belong together.

So I started searching.

I thought it would be easy to find natural, plant-based printing inks here in India — after all, that’s where this tradition comes from. But most modern printing has shifted to synthetic inks because they’re quicker and easier.

Still, I kept following the thread.

And then I found it.

A place in Mysore creating natural, plant-based block printing colours… and not only that, they also offer workshops in learning how to work with them.

In that moment, everything clicked.

That was the missing piece.

I’ve now enrolled in a 10-day program to learn, explore, and immerse myself in plant-based dyes, fabrics, and traditional block printing methods — and I feel so excited, so aligned, and so certain that this is exactly where I’m meant to be heading.

And suddenly it all makes sense.

The resistance wasn’t a block… it was guidance.

Those beautiful blocks were never meant to be used with synthetic paints. They were asking for something more natural, more connected, more in harmony with their origins.

So this is the next step in the journey.

And I’d love to take you along with me as I learn, experiment, and discover this beautiful world of plant-based printing.

This feels like the beginning of something really special, and I’d love to share it as it unfolds.
